To seek control is to take enormous aggravation upon yourself. This process that is underway will take the control freak by the short and curly and throw him against a wall. It’s like trying to control a dream, you see. The global destiny of the species is somehow unfolding with the logic of a dream.Terence McKenna
I thought today would be a good opportunity for an “assessment” journal entry; where I was, where I’m at, and where I’m going.
But first, What Happened On This Day:
- The French Revolution’s “Reign of Terror” begins (1793)
- Jesse James is born (1847)
- The first Oswald the Lucky Rabbit cartoon, “Trolley Trouble,” is released (1927)
- Werner Herzog is born (1942)
- Jack Kerouac’s “On the Road” published (1957)
- Lynette “Squeaky” Fromme tries to assassinate President Gerald Ford (1975)
- “The Muppet Show” premieres (1976)
I’ve been blogging for a long time; I think I was blogging before blogging was cool. Certainly, I’ve continued to blog even after it stopped being cool. In fact, I am not really sure my blogging was ever really cool. But here we are.
One thing I’ve learned is that unless you are willing to consciously play towards one “side” or another as part of a lucrative online pundit scam, you might as well just blog about what you love.
For the longest time, I’ve tried to blog about “relevant” things; popular things. Nowadays, dipping my toe into that pool just infuriates me. To even complain about such things is just unwittingly contributing to the overall net publicity payload of those very same things that infuriate you. Some press is better than no press, after all. Bad press can sometimes be the best press. Having worked in both PR and entertainment, I’ve observed and experienced it all; I have very little to show for it outside of a few comic books and a Fluoxetine prescription.
At any rate, now I just want to write about what interests me. This might not be the recipe for success, as I can be quite weird, obtuse, and cryptic. But given the current state of things, I don’t really see there is just that much left to lose. By “the current state of things,” I mean general Existence, the world, our era’s unique lot. It does seem to be unravelling into quite an unruly plate of spaghetti, doesn’t it?
I recently read the latest essay by an esoteric Thinker whose work I have enjoyed in the past. In the same breath with which he decries what he sees to be a “totalitarian” society filled with vaccines and such, he paints a picture of autistics as pretty much “mistakes” & human garbage. He says he doesn’t really “like” Donald Trump, but at least he’s (not a quote, just a summary) “shaking things up.”
This unnamed person’s opinions on such matters turns out to be very similar of others of his genre and generation. They claim to be hippies and free-thinkers and intuitives and sensitive environmentalists on one hand; but feel the only way to fight totalitarianism is to become, essentially (in the end), totalitarian.
In fact, hidden well within one of this author’s recent books is a passage where he literally says, seemingly in an approving manner, that in order to save the environment we probably need a “totalitarian” society. So it’s “bad-totalitarian” to mandate vaccines; but totalitarianism in the service of the (nebulously-termed) “environment” is totes OK.
I do not wish to link to or quote this individual here, because that all leads, as I’ve discussed before, back to the concept of “bad press is better than no press.” All it does, in my opinion, is feed into the inexorable gaping hungry gyre that keeps cash flowing into the media industry regardless of the possibly profound & unfixable damage it creates daily.
I am disappointed, though. Though: I am also learning not to be that surprised or crestfallen about such seeming “about-faces.” This is all, after all, basic flawed human nature. We fight the Empire, and then we become the Empire.
And so: I’ve been spending the last few weeks researching and planning new content for both my sites. Presently, I’ve finally put some of this material up.
Futurely…I am not sure of what my plans are. Probably keep writing?
I have referred to on Twitter several times the idea that it is imperative that we “create our own little worlds.” We need to do this at present as to cultivate some balance of wellness, sanity, and effectiveness.
Because most people out there right now are wanting to sell something to you: their candidate, their cult, their ideology. And, in spite of my desire to “stay out of it,” I don’t know how much different I am from them. Maybe I am selling you my indifference. I don’t know.
This is, by the way, why some of my favorite films are quite sincerely terrible. Because I need that Escape.
Thank you for reading & have a good day
